So you’re looking to get fit this summer but find that going to the gym purely to work out, if far too much pressure, plus it gets a little boring. Well, now you have no more excuses! – Here is a list of the top 5 sports that you can do that are not only super fun, but keep your body in check.
Swimming
If you like the water (and there’s plenty of it!) – get into the routine of going for a swim in your free time . Swimming is a brilliant exercise as it works your whole entire body by not only burning fat, but toning everything at the same time. If you tend to find activities such as running a little too hard on your joints, then swimming is a wonderful alternative to that because you become virtually weightless and your mobility can increase, without causing you any aches or pains.
Surfing
Surfing is not only a sport packed full of adrenaline, excitement, and the need for speed, but it is also an excellent workout for your body. Not only does it include having to swim, but even the motion of pulling yourself back onto the board every time is giving you a workout session in itself, let alone the strength you have to keep in your core to stay on the board. You can expect to feel absolutely exhausted after the first twenty minutes, but don’t think that’ll stop you!
Standup Paddleboarding
If you’re looking for a more relaxing way to work out, then get yourself a SUP – otherwise known as a standup paddleboard. These things are so versatile you can do practically whatever you want on them, whether that be having a calm ride over the water, to fitting in a whole yoga session on there. Even if it doesn’t feel like you’re necessarily working hard – you are, because you have to engage your core muscles the whole time otherwise you’ll just fall off. Pair that with the downward dog, and your body will reap the benefits.
Dancing
Whether you have rhythm or not is irrelevant, dancing is all about how it makes you feel and how your body is reacting to that. Dancing is one of the best natural relievers of stress, as it releases endorphins into your brain which make you feel happy and even in some cases euphoric . And physically, it keeps your body fit and active by burning away all those naughty calories that you consumed, along with the fat that remains. So stick on your favourite music, turn up the volume and have a good ol’ dance.
Volleyball
If you prefer a healthy bit of competition amongst your friends, then try your hand at volleyball. Invite all your friends for a day at the beach, pack a bunch of refreshments, and get the game started. Your upper body will be working hard because of all the ball hitting. Your lower body will be working hard from all the running around. And of course, your abs will be working most of all because those are the muscles holding everything else together.
